For my thesis I am studying Cornelis de Heem. In order to study de Heem I have to study the works of his father as de Heem senior was very influential on his style.  I am combining elements from several pieces of this artist's work to create a new work. The detail of realism combined with compositional arrangement is where I will be directing my attention. I am exploring the layering methods that this artist used in order to achieve such great dimension and depth.

Cornelis de Heem -Still Life with a Basket of Fruit circa 1654

Artist: Cornelis de Heem, son of Jan Davidsz de Heem, was born in 1631 and past away in 1695. Cornelis studied under his famous father who was known for his lavish arrangements of floral, fruit, silver, glass and other opulent items.  Cornelis set himself apart from his father in the way he handled light and color in his paintings.
